With the kids being out from school and the workload being a little lighter, the summertime is an extremely popular time for couples and families to book vacations! Frommer’s has put together a list of the most popular vacation destinations for 2014 varying from the relaxing beaches to busy site-seeing cities. Which will you choose this summer?

For the adventurous travelers Frommers recommends the following spots that are full of history and adventure:

– Taiwan- While Taiwan will offer a slightly more relaxed feel from China, less crowds doesn’t mean less to see. You can explore treasures of the Forbidden City, wander through temples, and even visit beaches and natural hot springs

– The Big Island, HI- No doubt, Hawaii is full of beautiful beaches however the Big Island is known for its volcanoes. Pele, the active volcano on this island, feature lava steams and steam explosions that you can witness, all from a safe distance of course. – Rio de Janeiro- Combine seeing history with making history this year and travel to the host city of the 2014 World Cup Championship. The city is emerging with new tourist spots as the city prepares to host the 2016 Summer Olympics.

For the traveler who wants a true relaxing vacation, these spots are sure to let you relax with a drink on the beach:

– Riviera Nayarit, Mexico-The spot has beach vacation written all over it, white sand beaches, local towns perfect for day trips, and water actives like surfing and whale watching. This town is filled with all inclusive resorts for the ultimate relaxation experience so once you arrive you won’t have to worry about anything additional during your stay.

– Ciudad Colonial, Dominican Republic- Another destination spot offering multiple all inclusive options, this town is small enough to experience the historical side of the city and the relaxation of the beach!
