2019: Summer is coming!
2020: Summer is coming.
In a normal year, we would be preparing for Memorial Day festivities and making plans to hit the beach. However, this is not a normal year. With stay-at-home orders and social distancing being at the forefront of how we operate our day to day lives, summer has been reduced to just another season. Some states have reopened, but not all. And even states that have reopened, are still restricting large gatherings, beaches, concerts, amusement parks – well pretty much your usual summer activities.
So what will summer look like with COVID-19 present? Yes, the Summer Olympics is cancelled along with sports in general. Concerts, parades, trade shows festivals, the list goes on. But most of the warmer weather activities that you traditionally partake in, can still be done locally or at home. This includes patio bbq’s, picnics, bike riding, hiking and roasting marshmallows over a campfire.
There have been suggestions that the coronavirus will go away on its own once the warmer weather comes. With COVID-19, there is not enough data to know if there will be a significant slowdown in infections as temperatures rise. Though some viral illnesses seem to slow in the warmer months, we aren’t sure for COVID-19. In countries such as Australia and Iran, COVID-19 has spread very quickly despite warm and humid weather.
We know that the beautiful sunny weather is not making it easier for people to stay at home, but we have to follow CDC guidelines to ensure that we flatten the curve as soon as possible.
